2024.10.10
‘Group Training Course 2024’ was held from 26 August to 4 October.
15 Participants from 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region participated in the training. This year they learnt about excavation methods at archaeological sites in Nara Prefecture and how to conserve and utilise artefacts at the Nara National Reseach Institute for Cultural Properties and Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, Nara Prefecture under the theme of ‘Conservation and Management of Archaeological Sites and Artefacts’.
They also visited the national historic site of Yoshinogari in Saga Prefecture, the World Heritage Site of Yoshinogari, the World Heritage Site "Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region" in Fukuoka Prefecture, and the Kyushu National Museum, where they learnt about issues and management after World Heritage inscription, the maintenance of excavated archaeological sites and their role in museums.
The participants were always actively thinking about how they could apply this knowledge in their own countries. We hope that they will continue to use the knowledge gained from this training for the protection of cultural heritage in their own countries.
