2022.10.06

Group Training Course for Young Professionals on Cultural Heritage Protection in the Asia-Pacific Region 2022 focusing on ‘Conservation and Management of Wooden Built Heritage’ was held from September 1st to September 30th.
This year as well, the course was hosted online. We tried to adapt to remote learning through video lectures, online meetings and live-stream broadcasts directly from the conservation site. In addition to the case study presentations from each participant and the discussions related to the cases, we made a new trial of the live streaming session from the restoration site, "Kaidando" at Todaiji Temple, Nara.
Discussions and Q&A among the participants and lecturers had been very active, with meaningful outcomes. Several important topics were discussed, such as the issues of protecting the traditional knowledge and skills of conserving wooden structures, problems of obtaining and securing the materials, licencing systems of conservation architects, and challenges of protecting the vernacular houses and town-scapes. In addition, the course addressed issues related to the methods, techniques and strategies of repair and conservation activities in different countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
