World Heritage Class was held at Ichijo High School

'World Heritage Class' is an educational programme offered by ACCU Nara that aims to provide high school students, the next generation who will carry cultural heritage heritage into the future, with opportunities to learn about World Heritage and cultural heritage in their own communities. By encouraging students to consider the value of cultural heritage for themselves, the programme seeks to deepen their understanding of Nara's history and culture and foster awareness about the importance of safeguarding and passing on cultural heritage to future generations.
On Wednesday, 9 September, a World Heritage Class was held for 28 second-year students at Ichijo High School.
The class was focused on the World Heritage sites of Nara, a subject closely conneted to the students' own communities. Ms KUBO Michiyo, a freelance announcer and World Heritage enthusiast, was invited as the guest lecturer. She gave an introduction to the origins and basic concepts of the World Heritage Convention, the inscription process, the characteristics of Japan’s World Heritage sites, and the newly inscribed 'Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara.'
Many of the component parts of the World Heritage site, 'Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara' are located near Ichijo High School. Using their local area as a case study, the students worked in groups to discuss current issues from two different perspectives: those of local residents and those of visitors. Each group then presented the results of their discussion.
